Concrete floor laid

A significant amount of work has taken place to prepare for the laying of the concrete slabs that will form the floor of the entire building. All the necessary services have been set in the ground, everything has been levelled and the damp proof course is in place.

The first of a number of concrete mixer lorries arrived this morning to pour the floor which has been designed to go down in various sections.

Once the floor is complete the long task of building the walls starts - with a total of over 45000 small bricks.

Steel frame nearing completion

The steelworks are nearing completion after 2 weeks of hard work. The next phase involves checking angles and adjusting the frame to ensure it is perfectly aligned. Once this is done, concrete shrouds are constructed around the base of each vertical steel before the start of bricklaying.

The student team will visit the site next week and should see a significant change once again.

The steel frame starts to take shape.

Work started today to erect the steel framework of the building. So far everything has gone to plan with the steel fitting the bolts in the foundations and the beams linking together smoothly. Well done to the engineers who have clearly got their measurements spot on!

Here are some more photographs of the latest progress.

More foundations

By Friday 5th April, a third of the foundation strips had been laid.

Steel is due to arrive at the start of the new term once the foundations are complete. Watch this space for more photographs as the structure rises from the ground.

Foundations being laid today

Over the Easter break the services ducting was dug by the side of the main hall to carry Gas and Electricity to the new build.

Excitement as the first part of the foundations were poured this morning. This includes accurate positioning of the foundation brackets to support the steel framework.

The pictures below show some of this work taking place.

Visit 1 to sports hall site

Our student team made their first visit to the site today, inspecting the groundworks and listening to details of how the project was progressing. They began to see how large the complex will be and just how much Earth has been moved in order to prepare for the foundations.

Whilst on site, they saw the first strip of foundations that had been prepared ready for concreting and had the opportunity to stand in the trench.

They will visit the site every two weeks to track progress and learn more about how to build a sports complex.
