Sandringham School welcomed the headteacher of their partner school in the Gambia recently. Mr Momodou Jallow, principal of Farafenni Senior Secondary School, spent two days at the school, meeting students and teachers and attending lessons.
He met the head, Alan Gray, and other members of the leadership team to discuss strategies in both schools for raising achievement, as well as members of Sandringham student leadership team to discuss student participation.
This visit is part of an ongoing link which began in 2009 with a reciprocal visit between the two schools. Football boots and sports equipment, as well as money for library shelving, were presented to Farafenni school in February 2010 when a group from Sandringham visited The Gambia.
Mr Jallow has just completed his Masters in Education and Management at the University of Reading this year, whilst on secondment through the Gambian government, and will be instrumental in developing the partnership further.
Sandringham has recently been awarded a grant through the British Council to continue our development of curriculum links between the two schools. The cross-curricular link will focus on sustainability, the environment, mathematics, English and science. We are just arranging a visit to The Gambia for the Spring half term in 2012. This will involve taking seven students and three staff for a week to Farafenni High School.
