Congratulations on getting a place at Sandringham!

When I got that letter saying that I had a place at Sandringham, I felt very excited but very much scared, and I'm sure you feel the same way too. It's the same for everyone - a step into a new world. But I soon settled in. Your first experience at Sandringham is Induction Day - this gives you a taste of everyday life at this school. I very soon settled in and was no longer worried, at the end of the day it's just another school. I got to know my way around from class to class, I got to know the teachers (who are very knowledgeable and nice and will always be there to support you) and I made some new friends. There are plenty of great facilities to look forward to; the swimming pool, the tennis courts, the SandPit (the big theatre), the sports equipment, the library, the science equipment and the music equipment - these are just some of the many great things.

Not long after you have arrived at the school you will go to the Peak District for a few days. This is a FANTASTIC trip - I enjoyed every moment of it. On the first day you travel to where you will be staying (at a big youth hostel called Ilam Hall) and go for a little walk around the surrounding area. When you get back you get washed up and eat, before having some free time and going to bed (the facilities and food are brilliant at Ilam Hall). The second day is very tiring. You are woken up early and go for an 8 mile walk. The views and sights are great and there are plenty of enjoyable things to do on the walk. You have a few stops along the way, including lunch and a stop at an ice cream shop! Your final destination is at the top of a mountain standing at around 1000 feet tall. Climbing up it as well as down it is a challenge. On the final day, before going home, you stop off at Alton Towers. It's a great thing to look forward to.

Sandringham is a place for all people of all different abilities and talents, so you never feel disappointed in yourself, just keep giving all the effort that you possibly can - you will be rewarded and praised. This leads nicely to my next point. The rewards are great here and the door is wide open for you to take them up. They include merits (an equivalent of a house point that goes in your planner), merit certificates for getting a certain amount of merits (which include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and even Diamond), Headteachers Commendations (these come with a special gold merit worth 3 merits), roll of honour, school colours and the annual Prizegiving Assembly at the end of each school year. Aim for all of these things and your Sandringham career will be bright! There are consequences given for bad actions but again, you don't need to worry about these as long as you work to your best.

Sandringham is never short of things to do. There are extra curricular for nearly each and every subject, during lunch also. If you like your sport, then there are inter-school matches, and if you like acting then there are plays for you to take part in. Even if you don't do clubs, there will always be something, as there are house competitions running through the year for you to get involved in. During school the lessons are just as enjoyable as you get to learn things which are so much more interesting. I'll use science lessons as an example; could you imagine ever using fire in school, or using microscopes to look at cells and experimenting with lethal acids? A bonus is how good the food is at Sandringham, at break as well as lunch. There really is so much to look forward to, not to worry about.

I started my time at Sandringham worried. I was scared to get things wrong, scared to ask a teacher about things, getting preoccupied about small details and worrying about what was going to happen next. But when I challenged all of these dilemmas I found that nothing bad happened - everything was fine! What's more now I am never worried.

I hope that you have found this helpful.
