Peak District 2016
After an early start, we arrived at Alton Towers at 10.30 a.m. to find the park quiet with hardly any queues for rides. The students had a wonderful time enjoying everything on offer as did the staff, some of whom also tried out various rides. We then had a short trip to Ilam Hall where students learnt how to make their beds (the traditional way!) before setting off on a tour of the grounds and Ilam village. It was then time for an evening meal before some work, reflecting on the day. There will be a (brief) visit to the tuck shop on site before bed at 9.30 p.m., ready for the BIG WALK tomorrow. Watch this space for regular updates.
Breakfast at 8.00 a.m. (full English) then we set off on the walk at 9.40. There was light rain but nothing too bad, and the walk went to plan, arriving in Milldale for lunch at 12.00 p.m. The ducks were VERY persistent and enjoyed some of the sandwiches! We then continued the walk along the river before gathering to ascend Thorpe Cloud. Almost everyone got up ‘The Cloud” and enjoyed the views across the Southern Peak District. We then made our way back to Ilam Hall (via the Ice Cream shop) to clean up and complete some work. A Fish and Chip supper set everyone in a great mood ready for the evening disco. We are will be heading home tomorrow having had a fantastic time here.
Up bright and early to finish packing and tidying rooms before breakfast. Left Ilam Hall at 9.30 a.m. for the 1 hour journey to Carsington Water. Spent two hours there investigating the grounds and study area before a picnic in sunshine. Left at 12.40 p.m. – ETA 3.20 p.m. Sandringham. A fantastic three days with our lovely new year 7 students from B half. Well done everyone and a very big thank you to Mr. Whorrod for organising everything and the other staff on the trip. Good luck to A half who are currently on their way up to the Peak District.
