Wednesday 27th September 2017:
Great first day with a good journey to Carsington Water Reservoir. Lunch then final journey to Ilam Youth Hostel. The four tutor groups then explored the grounds of the hall and Ilam before returning to learn how to make their beds before the evening meal. After the meal, students completed their work for the day including writing poems about the Peaks before a little downtime and then bed. The BIG WALK is tomorrow – so everyone needs a good sleep!
Thursday 28th September 2017:
After a lovely evening, everyone is up and ready for today. Breakfast at 8.00 a.m. with groups leaving from 9.00 a.m. The walk involved working through the grounds of Ilam Hall before venturing across the beautiful Peak District countryside. After about 4 miles we arrived at the lovely hamlet of Milldale where we stopped for lunch. Once fed and watered, we then set off back along the Dovedale Valley towards Thorpe Cloud. On the way, students visited caves, went over bridges, sampled some spring water and sat on ‘Lover’s Leap’ before tackling the 280m peak of Thorpe Cloud. After 20 minutes (or so) all had made it to the top and posed for various photographs (just to prove they had made it). It was then an orderly descent before crossing the river over the stepping stones and then a short walk to the ice cream parlor. Once this was complete we returned to the hostel for a clean-up and writing the account of the day. The evening meal went well (burgers and chips) with the end of trip disco to follow. A good time was had by all.
