Admissions Consultation

Consultation on new admission criteria for 2019 – 2020.

In consultation with Hertfordshire LA the Governing Body of Sandringham School has consulted the community on a change to admission rules for secondary transfer 2019 onwards. This consultation closed on 18th December 2017. For 2017 and 2018 admission, the school temporarily increased its published admission number (PAN) to 240 to provide additional spaces for children living in the parish of Wheathampstead and the parish of Harpenden. This was to accommodate the high demographics to the North of St. Albans until the new Harpenden School opens. The Governing Body have now determined the admissions criteria for 2019 -2020. This includes removing the option for admission of children from Wheathampstead and Harpenden through the random allocation process whilst maintaining the PAN at 240. As a consequence, all places not offered to through rules 1 – 4 will be allocated to children nearest the school.

You can view the determined 2019-2020 admission rules and the new Supplementary Information Form here.

Thank you to members of the community who responded to this consultation.

GCSE and A-level performance 2017

Our students performed exceptionally well once again this summer, with outstanding results at GCSE and A-level. At GCSE, 76% of students achieved a level 5 or higher in both English and mathematics with a Progress 8 measure of +0.85. You can view performance data for Hertfordshire schools here. This demonstrates that attainment and progress were significantly higher than Hertfordshire and national averages and will place the school in the 100 top performing non-selective schools in England. Results at A-level were similarly impressive with 42% of all grades achieved being A* – A and a value-added ALPS score of 2, placing the school in the top 10% of all schools in the country. You can see more about our results here.

Congratulations to all of our young people who achieved so highly in Summer 2017.

Key activities this term

The second half of our autumn term is always packed with activities, and this year is no exception.

Thursday 23rd November. Learning Review Day (LRD) is where all students have the opportunity for an extended meeting with a member of staff to consider progress throughout the term and set targets for the remainder of the year.

Wednesday 29th November (SandPit Theatre). International Evening is now a firm favourite with everyone. It is our annual celebration of cultures and traditions from around the World, involving drama, dance and music.

Examination results 2016

We were really proud of the achievements of all our students in 2016. They were rewarded with many outstanding results in their various examinations. At GCSE, 84% of students achieved 5A* – C including English and maths, which is a wonderful performance and reflects the talent and effort of these lovely year 11 students. Over 37% of all results were A* and A grade, with many achieving all A* and A grade results. As usual, we report combined BeauSandVer results at A-level which is the combination of results from our post-16 consortium including Beaumont, Sandringham and Verulam students. These were also excellent results across the three schools with students progressing to Higher Education at some of the very best Universities in the UK. Headline figures for GCSE and A-level are shown in more detail on the examinations page.
